ABOUT:

Uttor Kolkata Baulana Folk Welfare Society (UKBFWS) is an association of like-minded people allied to promote Folks of West Bengal, India. It initially started in the year 2010 under the keen leadership of  Sri Supratim Chowdhury & Smt Krishna Chowdhury as a folk musical endeavor with a focus to develop and uphold the Baul traditions of Bengal among the present generation. Sooner it was realized that only the development of music and culture cannot develop the socio-economic condition of a folk community.

“FOLK” means Common People so to widen the scope of our society works we have registered our association under Society Registration Act West Bengal and undertook various social development works addressing primarily to Education, Health, Socio-cultural development of rural and underprivileged commoners. Under the keen tenacity of Supratim Chowdhury on 23rd February 2016, the first Executive Committee of the Society came into existence with  Registration under the West Bengal  Society Registration Act XXVI of 1961.

We have initiated a rural free preschool by the name Sahaj Path at Bolpur Birbhum District imparting pre-school education along with other co-curriculum like music and drawing classes to more than 45 underprivileged students fully free of cost at Bolpur.

We have so far promoted more than 40 young folk musician socioeconomically for more than 08 years at different platforms across the country through various musical performances and arrangements of musical events at different levels. This indeed has a two-way aspect that is economical development of the musician along with propagation and preservation of the music of the soil of  Bengal.

Recently we have commenced a child development program known as “UDDIPON”  at the heart of Kolkata in collaboration with Shyambazar Nabakish Secha Sebi Sanghatha to impart skills of  Art, Craft, and  Music to less privileged children of the surrounding street and canal area.

Our unity among members the ideology of social service, commitment to the goal of the organisation, and transparency in administration has made this organisation prominent within a short span of time.
